David Byrne, the artistic director of the Royal Court theatre in London, has called for the next government to create a “rescue package” to keep young people in the arts or risk losing a generation of playwrights who cannot afford to stay in the sector.

In his first major interview since taking over in January, Byrne called for an urgent intervention to support younger artists, particularly those from black, disabled, working-class or LGBTQ+ backgrounds.

In a move that has stirred controversy, artist Rheim Alkadhi has threatened to withdraw her solo show from London’s Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) unless the institution addresses allegations that it retaliated against employees who expressed solidarity with Palestinians.

From a sculpted athletic torso pierced by metal rods to a skull adorned with glittering decorations, the Royal Academy’s eclectic Summer Exhibition has something for everyone.

The Royal Academy of Arts’ legendary summer exhibition is underway in London.

The Royal Academy selects renowned artists like Emin as Royal Academicians, granting them membership in the historic institution. Currently, there are fewer than 100 Academicians, so each year, about two-thirds of the exhibited works are by non-members.
