What are you feeling right now, as you read this — curious, nonchalant, bored, interested? Or is there something else niggling at the back of your mind? Our state of mind is constantly governed by our emotions even if we do manage to master our expressions.

The Pollen Waits on its Tiptoe, an art exhibition themed around the nine emotions or Navarasas, has been curated by Bengaluru-based Manasa Raj.

Manasa says the idea for this show was a long time in the making. “During the pandemic, I noticed how the same situation was eliciting different reactions from different people — some were anxious, others relieved, while few saw it as an opportunity to challenge themselves. Art Encounter and the Center for Independent Futures have joined hands, for the third year in a row, to mount an exhibit of artwork at the Coffee Lab, 910 Noyes St. The works are the result of a program of creative workshops and social connection offered by Art Encounter and teaching artist Val McCune, a 10-year Evanston resident.

The 10 adult participants from the Art Club are showing their artwork on the east wall during the month of April, with at least two pieces from each person being shown. The coffeeshop is chock full of artwork, so the exhibit, entitled “This is Us,” has a lot of competition.
