In collaboration with Newtown Cultural Arts Commission, Newtown Public Schools will be showcasing student art at the municipal center the first two weeks of April. Featuring the artwork of students throughout the district, the annual presentation will provide the opportunity to highlight the artistic excellence of Newtown children of all ages.

A public reception is planned for Tuesday, April 2, from 5-7 pm, during which guests will have the opportunity to enjoy face painting, music, and snacks as the exhibits are officially unveiled to the public.

“Every kid wants to show their parents their art and it is packed,” said Laura Lerman, chair of the cultural arts commission. The commission originally initiated the art show tradition when they assumed curation responsibility for the Newtown Municipal Art Gallery, she shared.

The exhibit will be on display April 1-12 in the central hall of the Newtown Municipal Center. The building, at 3 Primrose Street, is generally open weekdays between 8 am and 4:30 pm. The art can also be viewed evenings when Town boards and commissions are meeting at the municipal center.

ALT Philippines returns this year to celebrate and present the works of over 200 dynamic contemporary artists to further their goal of “developing art education, patronage, and community engagement”. Now on its third edition, ALT Philippines is produced by nine art galleries here in the metro—Artinformal, Blanc Gallery, The Drawing Room, Finale Art File, Galleria Duemila, MO_Space, Underground, West Gallery, and Vinyl on Vinyl. Together with each of the gallery’s presentations, the collaborative event will also be featuring various performances, exhibits, talks, and a silent auction open for everyone in attendance across five whole days.

To its very core, ALT Philippines is created with the idea of presenting art in a more personal, organic, and engaging manner. Held at the SMX HALL 4 at the Mall of Asia Complex within a floor area of over 2,500 square meters, this year’s edition has the biggest breathing space for the works presented and just the right atmosphere for the audience—allowing for a free and organic interaction between the art and its patrons.
