Art exhibition in Aberlady
Contemporary Botanical Art will be on display in Aberlady later this month.
From 17 January – 25 February 2024 a new exhibition presents work by members of the Scottish Society of Botanical Artists (SSBA) alongside sculptures by Ellen McCann. For this exhibition, and to reflect the charitable aims of the SOC, the artists have taken their inspiration from plants found in the wild in Scotland.
These plants, wild flowers, trees, ferns, brambles and weeds form part of the habitat of wild birds and pollinators, and indeed visiting birds and insects are included in some of the paintings! The SSBA promotes and encourages botanical art in Scotland. It is an inclusive organisation whose membership ranges from those relatively new to botanical art to professional artists. They work in a variety of media including watercolour, acrylic, coloured pencil, graphite and ink.

Fundraiser for Animals 26th March – 6th April 2025 Helping Paws presents DOWN TO THE BONE 2, a collective art exhibition to raise funds for animals in the UK and overseas. 26 March – 6th April. 54 artists from around the country have contributed paintings and sculptures. Artists include Dr Marc Abrahams OBE, or ‘Marc the Vet’, author, broadcaster, TV personality and animal welfare campaigner based at The Mewes Vets in Rottingdean, Romany Mark Bruce, painter and creator of the Brighton AIDS Memorial, and Sarah Sellers a Rottingdean resident who is the daughter of the late Peter Sellers.
The Art Fringe is proudly presenting “Through the Eyes of Women”, its biennial exhibition marking International Women’s Day (IWD). Through art, the exhibition aims to amplify and celebrate the voices of creative women. Female artists practising in a variety of mediums and approaches will be displaying their work in response to this year’s brief: “What does faith mean to you as a woman?”.
A Scottish folk singer’s mining heritage struck a chord with a University of Dundee student who has created artwork for a new exhibition.
Culann Mackay, a third-year Illustration student at the University’s Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design (DJCAD), has created a new print based on a recorded conversation from Fife musician Barbara Dymock.
