“My strength is not mine alone but is the strength of many.”

This is one of the proverbs that influenced Rosalie Koko’s muka and cotton applique reversible quilt.

Koko is one of 11 artists who have connections to the region whose work is displayed at the new toi Māori gallery Tui Tui [bind together].

The gallery is at Square Edge Arts Centre in the space previously used by Studio on The Square, and is the brainchild of new Square Edge Community Arts artistic director Erana Kaa.

At eight o’clock on the second friday of each month, at South Street Arts Centre in Reading, The Poets Cafe assembles in a warmly lit room, all faces turned like sunflowers, to the reader on the stage.

Every month, a new guest poet is invited to share their work with the room. These are established poets, often reading from published collections and anthologies of their own.

In soft, ambient lighting, “The Thinker” rests his fist against his chin, lost in profound contemplation. Just a few steps away, “Balzac” stands tall, head held high. These masterpieces, crafted by the legendary French artist Auguste Rodin, are quietly placed at an exhibition hall in Shanghai, inviting local visitors on a journey through the splendor of 19th-century French art.

The exhibition Rodin: A Hinge Figure towards Modernity will kick off on Saturday as the opening exhibition of the much-anticipated Centre d’ Art Rodin, or Rodin art center in Shanghai, a key cultural exchange project under the theme of the 60th anniversary of China-France diplomatic ties this year.
