Springwood High School teacher curates London art show

An artist and teacher who appeared on TV’s Landscape Artist of the Year, and was shortlisted for the prestigious Sir John Hurt Art Prize, has curated a London exhibition featuring the work of over 120 artists.

Lee Eveson, head of art and photography at Springwood High School in Lynn, creates under the name EVES and is known outside of the classroom for his acrylic and spray paint works, which are inspired by the Norfolk landscape.

Recognizing the vital role of the arts in nurturing innovation, critical reflection, and problem-solving abilities, the MTN Foundation has strategically chosen to focus on the arts within MTN South Africa’s corporate social responsibility initiatives.

This collaboration aims to bolster the arts through the adoption of digital technologies and ICT integration in education. The call is open to emerging curators, offering a chance to participate in this distinguished award, with entries accepted until the 30th of September 2024.

Tohu a Te Kīngi 2024: Art curator Megan Tamati-Quennell

Over 30 years of translating a passion for modern and contemporary Māori art into prose and exhibitions has led to curator and writer Megan Tamati-Quennell (Te Ātiawa, Ngāi Tahu and Kāti Māmoe) being recognised in today’s King’s Birthday Honours.She has been made a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to Māori and First Nations art.

Tamati-Quennell has held curatorial roles at Te Papa Tongarewa and New Plymouth’s Govett Brewster Art Gallery, and has a special interest in contemporary Māori art, Māori modernism, Māori women artists and global indigenous art.
