Qatar Fine Arts Association opens ‘Elite’ exhibition at Katara Village

General Manager of the Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti on Tuesday inaugurated the Elite exhibition at Katara premises, building 13, in the presence of a host of fine artists and those interested in visual arts.
Organized by Qatar Fine Arts Association, the event will run until April 16 and showcases over 37 art works of Qatari and residents hailing from the pioneer, middle and the young generations who employ a variety of art schools in their masterpieces.
The showcased art works demonstrate the interplay between the art of drawing, portraiture, sculptures, and ceramics, reflecting the enrichment of the art scene in inspiring the nature, human and the heritage utilizing diverse tools to nurture the environment, cultures, and natural landscape, as well as diverse topics and techniques pursued by the participating artists.

President of Qatar Fine Arts Association artist Yusuf Al Sada said the exhibition constitutes a platform to share expertise and promote communication among the participants.
The exhibition shines a spotlight on the positive and bright image of the Qatari art movement, along with the experiences of pioneer artists and young people. it offers an opportunity for the public to taste the art and listen to the art works that the exhibition embraces, he said.

In her new role, McGrath will be responsible for leading Markel’s Fine Art business in North America, and driving the strategic, profitable expansion of this class of business. As part of this, she will be tasked with developing the regional underwriting strategy, product offering and regional footprint, working closely with Markel’s Fine Art underwriting team in the US.

Artists on the Sculpture and Environmental Art programme showcase a body of work that speaks of their experience of the ups and downs of creating and the nature of time, representing a state of flux.

Exploring the dissonance and unresolved relationship between our ‘speaking selves’ and physical embodied selves, Joe Cameron’s meticulously crafted stop-motion animation, Island of Forgetful Folk, sings of themes of subjective experience and the constructed self through the eyes of a character whose memory is externalised in a series of notebooks that detail his past. Ancient spaces and archetypal settings function as metaphors for the external and internal self as we are invited to consider our own phenomenological experience of life.

Tradition and new ideas on display at 15th Zhejiang Fine Arts Exhibition

The 15th Zhejiang Fine Arts Exhibition at Zhejiang Art Museum through May 26 displays 713 works that include oil paintings, woodcut prints, ink-wash paintings, sculpture, ceramics, cartoons and digital art.

Hosted every five years, the exhibits compete in the Zhejiang Fine Arts Award, with the winners of the 14 gold, 23 silver and 40 bronze awards announced at the end of May.
