Penticton Art Gallery gets back funding after curator makes fiery demand to city council to reverse cut decision
The Penticton Art Gallery will get $125,000 in taxpayer funding this year instead of the $55,000 city council had previously granted them, following public uproar and a fiery appearance at council.
Following curator Paul Crawford’s passionate and at times contentious presentation Monday, council voted to up the grant to the gallery by $70,000 — with the caveat that before next year’s budget deliberation, a complete review of the grant proposal process is made clear to council.

School transforms cabinet into curlew artwork in Powys
Keep Wales Tidy and Ysgol Dyffryn Trannon collaborated on the project, which saw the previously ‘dull’ cabinet in Trefeglwys given a new lease of life.
The school’s pupils learned about curlews and the significance of farmland habitats, before joining forces with local artist, Valentine Kuhl, to create the mural.
The ground-nesting curlew, known for its bubbling call and long beak, is Britain’s largest wading bird.

On the record: UK artist Peter Doig to mix music and art in new London show
The UK artist Peter Doig’s love of music will be explored in a new show due to open at the Serpentine Galleries in London next year (October 2025-February 2026). In House of Music, the influential Scottish artist will reveal the contents of his record collection, pairing his paintings with music and film in a “multi-sensory environment”.
“For House of Music, Doig will bring his [music] archive to life through a sculptural installation of rare, restored analogue speakers. During the course of the exhibition Doig will invite a roster of musicians and other music enthusiasts to animate this ‘high fidelity’ equipment with their own selection of vinyl through a series of residencies,” says a gallery statement.
