Kula gallery calls on Alex to come and view art curation

The Underground Kula House Museum invites the community of Alexandra and beyond to view its latest curation known as The Faith & Foliage Art Exhibition by Sheba, better known as Lethabo Lengwati.

The exhibition, mounted by Kula Marolen Foundation and Lengwati has been with the foundation since it opened its doors in 2021, has been running since January 14, and will be on until March 30.
Lengwati is a local talented artist who has a keen interest in the development of her township community through shared and donated artworks.

Self-Curation is the Next Frontier for Art Galleries

Art is still seen, for the most part, as something that relies on being viewed in person and as a cultural experience largely reserved for a ‘certain type’ of person. The art world can feel exclusionary on many grounds: geography (most larger galleries are in big cities like London, New York, or Berlin), accessibility (little provision been made has historically for things like disabilities and neurodivergence), diversity (of staff, artists, themes), and more.

In the early days of lockdown, many galleries attempted new ways of showing art, often through online 3D walkthrough experiences, with varying success. In the years since, we’ve seen further significant shifts in how we interact with culture: the post-pandemic world is one of ‘phygital’ spaces, augmented realities, and new experiments in the gallery-from-home experience from NFTs to immersive takes on Van Gogh.

San Antonio Museum of Art Appoints Kristopher Driggers Associate Curator of Latin American Art

Mr. Driggers is a native San Antonian who most recently held the curatorial positions of Associate Curator of Latin American Art (2022-2024) and Assistant Curator (2019-2022) at the Tucson Museum of Art (TMA). While at TMA, he oversaw the first installation of the museum’s permanent collection in its new Kasser Family Wing of Latin American Art. He also organized various exhibitions, including CUMBI: Textiles, Society and Memory in Andean South America (2023); Popol Vuh and the Maya Art of Storytelling (2023); The Story of a Painting: José Gil de Castro’s Carlota Caspe y Rodríguez (2022); Francisco Toledo: Paper Fables (2022); and Noble, Proud, Wise, Lordly: Art of the Jaguar (2021).

In a press release, Emily Ballew Neff, SAMA’s Kelso Director, remarked, “With SAMA’s extraordinary collection of Latin American Art as a cornerstone, we are confident that Kristopher’s wealth of experience and passion for Latin American art will greatly enrich our institution’s offerings and engagement with our audiences and help lead us into the next exciting chapter of the museum’s history.”
