At London’s Serpentine, artist-musicians Holly Herndon and Mat Dryhurst merge the beauty of choral traditions and liturgical art to explore the potential of ethical AI.

Berlin-based Herndon and Dryhurst are best known for their work with machine learning. In 2023, TIME magazine named Herndon in its list of ‘100 Most Influential People in AI’, citing her shared projects with Dryhurst. Their innovative projects include Holly+ (2021), an online tool described as Herndon’s ‘digital vocal twin’, which allows users to upload a piece of audio and have it reproduced in the artist’s voice. For their first solo exhibition in the U.K.—presented at Serpentine North Gallery in London—the duo continues their investigations into sound and AI. Except this time, the focus is not on a single voice but on the collective voices of choral ensembles.

In 1998, Sir Eduardo Paolozzi was commissioned to produce a large sculpture of Oscar Wilde for Chelsea, and in 2024, it’s finally been delivered.

The lengthy delay was partly because of the artist’s death in 2005, and various other priorities got in the way. However, to coincide with Paolozzi’s centenary and Wilde’s 170th birthday, a postumous casting of the model created for the sculpture was commissioned, and the artwork is now, at very long last, on public display.

An artist has created an image of The Beatles using more than 24,000 screws.

Darren Timby, a graphic designer from Sunderland, spent about 120 hours making the portrait of George Harrison, John Lennon, Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney.

He said his decision to use screws was a way to pay homage to his hometown’s roots as an industrial city.

“Ship building and coal mining are all part of our history and the screw art is almost like a nod to where I’m from,” he said.
