China’s top art fairs are finally back, testing appetite of the rich

China’s biggest art fairs are back in a first post-Covid test of collectors’ appetite, at a time when the economy is facing multiple headwinds. West Bund Art & Design and ART021 both opened to VIP collectors on Nov. 9, with the general public invited in the days following. The former, sponsored by UBS Group AG, is in its 10th year with 185 galleries, while the latter is in its 11th year with 150 exhibitors.

The Shanghai fairs, which will be mainland China’s first major art events since the end of Covid Zero, come amid an uncertain global backdrop where even ultra-high-net-worth collectors are pulling back on art purchases. Years of pandemic restrictions, a troubled economy and a prolonged real estate crisis have especially battered Chinese sentiment.

IFAM Celebrates Two Decades of Global Folk Art

Mvskoke Art Market Returns for Third Year

The Third Annual Mvskoke Art Market will take place at River Spirit Casino Resort in Tulsa on April 20-21. The market has experienced significant growth in its first two years, and this year is no different. Artists participating increased from 60 and 82 in years one and two respectively, to 94 Native artists this year, representing over 30 tribes from across Oklahoma and Indian Country.  

The Market’s planning committee, building off past years’ success, have strived to come up with ideas to accommodate the growing popularity and improve the overall experience for attendees.  

Muscogee Nation Cultural Center and Archives Manager ShaVon Agee, has played a vital role in the Market’s planning and coordinating for the past three years.  

“We’ve expanded some space in the ballroom foyer in order to accommodate additional artists,” Agee said.
