Art has always been restricted to the elite, seen as a hobby for wealthy patrons, mansion owners and kings. Art Mumbai 2023 is set to change this view: recognising that art is meant for everyone, Mumbai’s first-ever art fair makes it more accessible to the masses than ever before. It is no surprise that Mahalaxmi Race Course—home to the most iconic events in India, and a favourite of Mumbaikars—is playing host to the event, taking place from 16 November to 19 November. Showcasing nearly 2,000 artworks from 300 artists and with a whopping 53 participating galleries from the world over, Art Mumbai 2023 is an immersive experience that captures meaningful conversations around modern culture and contemporary art from South Asia. Shares Conor Macklin, director of London’s Grosvenor Gallery and co-founder of Art Mumbai, “I am very excited about seeing the young artists and art students coming to the Art Mumbai fair and seeing the best of contemporary art from India as well as the Masters. “I am very excited about seeing the young artists and art students coming to the Art Mumbai fair and seeing the best of contemporary art from India as well as the Masters. In a fair, unlike in a museum, everything is accessible and for sale, so you can get up close and really engage. It is especially going to be a thrill for those who have never experienced an art fair such as this.”

ST.ART Gallery was founded with the core mission of supporting emerging artists and making the process of collecting more accessible. After three years of pop-up exhibitions around London, ST.ART has taken a great leap into a permanent space in Oxford Circus. In keeping with the gallery’s goal to open up the art market, ST.ART director, Charlie Pannell has launched a new project, the (Actually) Attainable Art Fair. This initiative was born in response to the high prices often seen at art fairs (£10,000+), Pannell has introduced a price cap of £600 for a range of pieces, including prints, sculptures and smaller works, from the 19 participating artists.
