Artificial intelligence (AI) has been making waves in various industries, from healthcare to finance, and now it is transforming the world of art. The impact of AI on art can be seen in three main areas: creation, curation, and consumption. As AI continues to evolve, it is essential to understand how it is shaping the art world and what it means for artists, curators, and consumers alike.

In the realm of creation, AI has opened up new possibilities for artists to explore and experiment with. One of the most significant developments in this area is the use of generative adversarial networks (GANs). GANs are a type of AI algorithm that can generate new images by learning from a dataset of existing images. This technology has enabled artists to create unique and innovative artworks that were previously unimaginable. For example, the AI-generated painting “Portrait of Edmond de Belamy” made headlines in 2018 when it sold for a staggering $432,500 at Christie’s auction house. This event marked a turning point in the art world, as it was the first time an AI-generated artwork had been sold at a major auction.

These artworks can often be created with surprising ease from the user’s side – many of the best AI art generators only require a simple ChatGPT-style worded prompt to spawn a painting, sketch, or apparently life-like photograph.
