Carlo Ratti Appointed Curator of the Biennale Architettura 2025
The Board of Directors of La Biennale di Venezia met today, Thursday 21 December, and deliberated the appointment of Carlo Ratti as Director of the Architecture Department, with the specific task of curating the 19th International Architecture Exhibition which will take place in 2025. The appointment was recommended by President Roberto Cicutto, in agreement with Pietrangelo Buttafuoco, President of La Biennale di Venezia for the four-year term March 2024-2027.
The Lahore Biennale Foundation (LBF) announces that the opening of the third edition of the Lahore Biennale (LB03) has been set for Saturday, October 5th, 2024. Organised around the theme of ecologies and sustainable futures, the Biennale will present site-specific work that draws attention to issues caused by environmental degradation, but that also highlights vernacular and indigenous heritage as potent resources for imagining future sustainability.

As a recurring art event, the Gwangju Biennale carries a heavy burden: to deal with the legacy and trauma of the democratic uprising and the massacre that followed in the city in May 1980, a recent historical event that has not reached its closure. Indeed, only a week before the opening, a grandson of the now-deceased South Korean dictator paid an unexpected visit to Gwangju, a city 270 kilometers away from the country’s capital. He flew in from the United States to confess the wrongdoings of his family and apologize to the victims of the massacre in public, stirring the citizens of Gwangju to reflect on their memories of the incident.
