Emerging London artist Ant Carver will be exhibiting new work in a solo show at Noho Showrooms from 29th November to 3rd December
In ‘Look At The Mess We Made’, 31-year-old Carver presents 20 narrative figurative paintings that explore the dissolution of a couple. Featuring images of 2 protagonists, the series makes for an enigmatic depiction of a relationship in decline. Incorporating highly detailed portraiture with the intensity of expression that is characteristic of Carver’s work, conflict is signalled in disruptive mark making and the spatial configuration of the subjects. An eroded sense of self is suggested in the distortion of features and faces. There are moments of intimacy – a solemn embrace, a disembodied pair of hands – that gesture to contradictory emotions and a poignant ending.
