The Spring Art Auction Season Was the ‘Worst of the Century,’ Mei-Moses Analysis Finds
A study of repeat sales of artwork at the major auction houses recently found that the spring auction season was “as bad as it gets,” resulting in the “worst overall financial performance in the 21st century.” The conclusions were reached by the JP Mei & MA Moses Art Market Consultancy, an enterprise run by longtime market analysts Jianping Mei and Michael Moses who look at repeat sales of artworks sold at Christie’s, Phillips, and Sotheby’s. Any observer of auction sales this past spring would have taken note of the less-than-stellar results, but Mei and Moses quantify the damage for sales of art originally bought at any global auction house from 1970 onward. The analysts met as professors at New York University’s Stern School of Business; Moses is retired and Mei is a finance professor at the Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business, based in Beijing.

Mrs Clark said she had been overwhelmed by the response to her post which has been watched more than 46,000 times.
“I just thought it was a great way to connect with lots of people at once to hopefully get five or six people donating a piece of art work to the school,” she said.
